I assume you mean the shift rod?

THere is an access panel on the side of the lower unit. Remove that, then remove the lower bolt on the coupler, that will allow the gearcase to drop down one its bolts are removed.

You mean the shift rod connection?
If so there is an oval plate on the side of the leg that is removed, and the shift rod coupler is under the plate. Remove the bottom coupler screw completely.

Hi ilove. Welcome to iboats. You'll need to remove a few bolts to get the LU to drop. Start by taking off the little plate on the side of the leg and remove the lower bolt in the shift rod coupler. You can then remove the 4-5 bolts that hold the LU itself in place. You may have to give it a bit of a knock with a rubber mallet to get it to drop. Once removed, you can change the impeller and/or oil seals as needed. Here's a great link that can walk you through a tune up from top to bottom as well as a link to a complete parts catalog with exploded diagrams of your entire motor. You can get any routine parts you may need right here at iboats. Good luck. Holler if you get stuck.
