This forum has been so helpful in my efforts to restore my 1968 Larson Volero. Yesterday I separated the cap from the hull. It wasn't that difficult. First I removed the rubber rub-rail and the aluminum that went all around the boat.

Question for the group: When I go to re-join the cap to hull, should I fiberglass the joint from the inside of the boat instead of attempting to re-stable the joint?

I guess my question is based on the fact that when I removed the staples and pryed the cap from the hull I damaged the thin lip that held the two sections together. I can't help but think that trying to re-staple the two sections would result in a "flimpsy" joint. I thought maybe fiber-glassing the joint all around the boat using 6 or 8 inch fiberglass tape would do the trick and result in a very strong hull/cap.

I would appreciate any thoughts on this... Thanks in advance.

Welcome to iBoats! I would NOT fiberglass the top cap to the hull. It would make the next separation very difficult. Instead, I would use fiberglass tape and repair the damaged edges and then drill and rivet the two halves together. That is the how most top caps are attached, with rivets.

I'm just sayin...:D

Don't leave the hull sitting like that for to long a time, put some braces across the top of the hull so that the hull keeps its shape,or you have a h--l of a time replacing its cap!
