Hi, I have a 1968 Johnson 33hp, RXEL 16R. (original long shaft motor)
When a parts catalog listing Johnson part# 554314 drive shaft 'standard'
this would be a short shaft ???, and "what is overall lenght of this shaft" ?
I know these parts are not made anymore but I am shopping around for a
used drive shaft, to convert my long to short shaft motor.
appreciate your time and info. David

Re: 1968 Johnson 33 hp drive shaft

Hi David,
The standard (short) shaft will be EXACTLY 5-inches shorter than the shaft you have now. Also, make sure any short shafts you find have the same bottom and top spline arrangement, as well as the same waterpump keyway placement. There are similar shafts out there with slight variations that would make them unusable in your motor.
