Well i bought this boat for 650 in early June sense then i put about 900 dollars in it. I noticed the floor was a little soft so i started to replace it. I used half inch water treated ply wood and water treated 2 by 2's for support. I ripped out all the old foam and i put very little back in it. IS THAT OK OR SOULD I PUT MORE IN? But the floor is covered in black indoor outdoor carpet and its solid and looks real sharp! So i am happy with that. Now the transom the bottom where the plug is, is a little rotted and has seen water before. I do want to replace it at one point but whats a good sign that it needs to be replaced? Its pretty strong it old moves a tad. And now the final things before it sets sail. The cap how dose it come off? And on the left rear side looks to be broken fiberglass how do i redo that? And the paint job, I trailer it around so it dose not sit in water all summer long. I wanna know the steps on painting it from A to Z. And i want to know a little info on this boat. Whats the max size motor. the year.. and can a Mercury 50 hp merc 500 4 cycl. Pull tubes? wake bored?

Use the search tool and browse the hull restoration threads. It sounds like your boat may be more rotted then you think. If that transom snaps out in the water, you could have your motor break off and loose it in the drink. You need to drill out samples in the transom and see if the shavings are wet or dry dust. Not all the way thru it, just a little bit into it. The stringers under the deck may be rotted also. The only way to tell is to remove some decking and do the drill out test on them as well. good luck, and welcome to the site.

Well i know the stringers are good a buddy of mine works at a boat place he says there good and as for the transom he says that it will need a replacement with in the next few years. So i will do a test to see how rotted it really is. But how do i take off the cap in order to look at it all?

Go inside the back compartment and take a drill and drill into the transom about half way thru it. If the shavings are dark and wet, you have a bad transom. You can test it in a few diff places top to bottom. If you are meaning the cap as the top of the transom, it probably has to be cut off. By doing that alone will not tell you if the bottom is rotted. The top may be dry. When you go to replace it is when you would cut the top of it off and start removing the rotted wood. Snap some pictures and post up what your working with.
