My 1968 Evinrude Fisherman (model 6803R) needs a fuel pump.
Amazon and EBAY have new fuel pumps for under $20.00. Does anyone have any experience with these?

As they say!
You get what you pay for.
I would look for a rebuild kit for your pump.
You may even find one right here on IBoats.

I emailed marineengines.com to see if they had a rebuild kit for the factory pump but never received an answer back. Anyone know if a rebuild kit is still available and what the part number is if available?

Out of 6 Amazon cheapos, 3 worked fine, 2 leaked out the body of pump when primed, and one no pump.
Thats much better results than the Chinese carburetors for small engines I have tried! : )

Maybe just lucky, but have three of the pumps and they work fine. Maybe check buyer reviews before ordering (probably not totally dependable as some lots might be defective, others not. Dunno.)

The factory rebuild kit is available all day long.----Many motors use the same rebuild kit !! ---Easy to find.-----About the only thing that goes wrong is the diaphragm.----Also easy to find.

I have had several of the big online dealers tell me the OEM rebuild kit is no longer available. They also said the Sierra rebuild kit only works for the Sierra pump. Do you have a part number?

That little pump was first used in 1968 on 3 HP and others.-----Used until 2007 on many models.----Find the part # on say a 1998 model 8 HP for kit and just the diaphragm !!-----Should be easy.------The online folks are only able to tell you what the computer screen tells them.-----Those folks have never repaired / overhauled a motor !!!

Racerone,
Here is the current part number for that pump. Only goes back to 1977.
The factory and three dealers told me this part will not work and there is no factory kit. it sure looks the same to me.

FROM THE FACTORY:
Brand new BRP 393088 Fuel Pump Repair Kit for Johnson and Evinrude outboards. Latest version OEM factory kit made in USA (not aftermarket or old stock) with the upgrades for todays high alcohol fuels.

Ok. Ordered. I'll take a chance but you would think the factory would want to list it if it fit since there are still a gazillion of these old motors still running.

Thanks Racerone!

Factory support for these old motors is incredible.-----Much better than for some 20 year old motors !!!!
