1968 evinrude 65 hp does not start

Hi..i have been trying to start my 65 hp for the last month, it di turn over for about 30 seconds then stopped. i used a sparlk plug tester on all 4 spark plugs and no spark, i then removed the flywheel points look very clean but i sanded them anyway. and put back everything with the same results..do you think the points need to be reset? is there any way to check the points with the flywheel off..any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

sorry, i am not that mechanically inclined especially around motors...can some-one explain step by step in dumbies language

You may want to think about getting an OEM Factory Service Manual. That explains all and has good pics.

you are right just trying to get the boat going for my son before summer ends.. I do not do good with water and i only bought this boat for my kids.. the water defeated me now the boat hahaha..i guess i will keep on trying..i live in a small town not much around here for repairs but forums keeps us going for knowledge..thanks
