1968 9-1/2 hp evinrude motor

I was given an original 1968 tech manual for a 9-1/2 hp johnson outboard motor
I was told they ( evinrude and johnson)are the same motor.
I was also told it was ony the powerheads that were the same.
Need help.

I'm going to rebuild the motor from top to bottom
Are the lower ends the same also
I guess what I'm asking is can I use the the factory Johonson manual to rebuild the evinrude

Yes. They are the same, except for the hood
