my 1967 Johnson 9-1/2 starts and runs great except when I turn it down as slow as it will go, she will idle very slow for 30 seconds or so than speed up on its own for 10-15 seconds then slow back down again. Fuel pump? carb float? any ideas?
speeding up may be sign of fuel shortage even if temporary
when it speeds up pump the fuel bulb to see if the speed returns to idle... if it settles down it was short on fuel.... has suggested openning the idle needle a bit may help
bring up the idle speed a bit with the side knob
how long since the last carb clean up... these 9.5hp need CLEAN carbs see article
