I recently purchased a boat/engine/trailer with a V4 Johnson Super Seahorse 80hp outboard. The engine is missing the back portion of the wiring harness. Everything from the ignition back is present but from the connector back is missing. I know this harness will cost about 200 to replace but I'm hesitant to do it because I have no idea if this engine will run reliably once I make this investment. I've had a couple guys tell me to just sell it for scrap. Is there any way for me to test this engine out for common issues before making this purchase so I can be at least somewhat confident that I won't be shelling out even more money? Or should I take the other advice and just scrap it out?
