My Holman Moody Marine boat has a cooling issue. The original Jabsco Pump 11850-0711 has fried two impellers and the motor overheats. I currently run the boat on the Rio Grande river in brackish water and occassionally make it to the mouth of the river where the Gulf of Mexico meets it. Any suggestions on repair, maintenance or total replacement of this type of pump? The motor is a 289 Ford V8

Ayuh,... You probably have a Restriction or plugged lines or passages....

Flushing(preferably Backwards) from the water pickup point to the water discharge point should lead you to Where the Problem is....

Btw,.... Welcome Aboard...

What outdrive do you have? Some where in the back of my mind I recall Moody using the Volvo 280 drives with some Ford engines.

I do believe it is a Volvo outdrive. It has a volvo prop but we are lacking in all data on this boat. I have purchased a few manuals from someone in the northeast and they don't really specify but we do have a 200 series manual for it. I am writing this on behalf of Dan, he was thinking of adding an additional pump when I think the simplest answer is to find the blockage. Thanks for your help.

It may not be a blockage, so much as an air leak.
When does it overheat and take out the impellers?
If it works ok at idle and slow speeds, then goes bat at high speeds (when on plane) have a look at the hose connection where it hooks to the drive. The connectors has a bad habit of corroding away and causing the pump to suck air (not water) when on plane because it's out of the water.

that sounds like an option. Is it possible that later models installed secondary pumps. I noticed on one of the threads that there was a dual pump on one of the motors, the poster had some decent but blurry pics and had white out on the pump. Either way will try the above suggestions.
