I have little to no experience with outboards. That said, the motor seems to run pretty good. New waterpump, plugs, rebuilt carb, & new fuel pump. Before I attempt to sell it, I want to make sure that it runs the way it should. The first time out, the motor seemed to hesitate at full throttle. I am guessing that this is due to it being a short shaft and I need a long shaft(reason for selling). But the motor also shut off after 15-20 mins and would recrank only after sitting a couple of mins. Could I have overheated it? Then it would run for a min. or two and shut off again. Now to my question. I am assuming that the exhaust exit is under water? How much water should be coming out of the upper hole under full throttle? If anyone wants to call collect, please feel free 843 871-9252 Thanks Mark

When motor dies take the cowling off and touch the powerhead with your hand. IF you cant keep your hand there for more than a few seconds you may be overheating however this sounds more like a coil or something in your electrical system. When motor gets hot the coil or whatever quits working. Chryslers do not put much out the back as far as water goes. Also if you were overheating I am pretty sure it would kill long before 15 to 20 minutes and it would probably take about an hour for it to cool down enough to start again.

The hesitation you mentioned could just be that your fuel mixture is a bit too rich. In a way this is good because a lean mixture is more prone to burning out the engine from lack of lubrication. You could try turning the mixture screw 1/8 turn clockwise and see if the hesitation decreases or goes away. If it does nothing turn it back to where it was.
