HELLO IBOATS!
Me again one more time. Checked the secret file and didn't see my topic for this old boat motor. So I had a no spark problem. Posted a thread and someone you wonderful peeps helped me get her firing again. After hell and High water the motor starts for half a Second and dies. Trouble shot it down threw the fuel line threw fuel pump. Threw carb and I'm getting fuel in the carb. And I cleaned the jets. But there was really no need. The carb looked brand new. Even the old cork float was in perfect shape. So I'm thinking it's the rich/lean screw set on top of the carb. Is that the basically fuel mixture screw. Much love for responses. Thanks

In the very bottom of the float bowl you will find the high speed jet.----All the fuel used by the engine goes through it.----Step #1 is to make sure that item is clean.

Yes sir, did the carb myself. Main jet is 100% clean. I set rich lean to 1 1half out and runs for a few seconds and died now instead of running.for a split second.

The item is 328544 in the bottom of the bowl.----That adjustment is for the low speed mixture only.

Just pulled the carb and main jet. As seen in pic. Also removed float and needle valve. All ports are clear and clean and flowing. Just wanted to check that no debris had made it in since last cleaning. Thise are the only 2 things in this bowl

Ok awesome after removing the carb again and removing the bowl. I removed the drain screw and found the jet behind the drain plug. Literally didn't have to pull the carb again lol. You live and you learn right?
So....yes it's clean now. Still dame symptoms starts for a few seconds and dies

I dont believe so. I've never seen it choke automatically when I turn key. I know it would have to be on the setting automatic. Is there a thread you can recommend for adjustment

Sorry----Turning the key does nothing on this particular choke set-up.----Simply not how it was designed !------Time to read up on the carburetor and choke on this motor.----I am done and stepping aside on this one.

hex nut at the high speed jet should be closed. Low speed needle about 1 turn open. Test run it with choke on manual control setting.

I could be wrong, but that looks like the electric choke that is on my '66 Johnson Super Seahorse 40hp ( Evinrude Big Twin 40hp ). My '66 is mechanical shift the carburator looks the same

It is a hot air choke with a solenoid ( override )------No difference in these chokes used from 1964 to 1970 models 40 HP standard and electric shift !!

The choke responds to air pulled through the heat exchanger in the exhaust manifold.----Air comes through that tube on starboard side of the block !!-----Air heats a " bimetallic " spring in the housing above the solenoid.

In the photo of the carb the choke is open.
Shouldn’t it not be closed until the motor warms up?
