been working on this one for a bit, runs great now. but it has this odd ticking noise.....sounds like an automobile fuel injector opening and closing, or a valve that needs adjustment....jut not that loud. im thinking its the reed valves , and nothing to worry about?

It COULD be a bad wrist pin bushing. Take the plugs out and turn it just past top dead cylinder. Gently use a screwdriver and push down on the piston. If you feel the piston go down more than an 1/8" or so before it starts to turn the flywheel you may have wrist pin problems. See if one's looser than the other as well.
I've never heard reeds before. It may also be your flywheel magnet tapping your coil bosses.

thanks JBJ, i will check for free play in the wrist pins, but i think you may be onto something with the coils. i asked in a different post about the automotive plug wires that the po ( or some po) installed. so someone has worked on the ignition and it could very well be an issue under the flywheel.
