i have been searching for a water pump for a 1966 6hp evinrude and i noticed i can order the origenal pump or an updated pump for a lil bit more $. which would be more reliable and easier to fix . i dont want to spend any more money than i need to if i can help it , this lil motor seems pretty bullet proof just about i couldnt believe after 18 yrs sitting in a shed she started right up on the 8th pull but didnt **** any water so i shut her down .

wow,sat for 18yrs and started right up,no carb clean needed?after 18yrs the impeller wouldve prob dry rotted somewhat anyway,,,it needed replaced regardless, might also put a carb kit just for insurance of not being stranded, those old floats tend to suck up fuel and get heavy, but sounds like the fuel might have been ran out before its rest, since it started right up,good deal,as far as reliable, the cheapest one you can find would prob be fine

it was a complete shocker to me, i was like a kid in a candy store hearing it run. i got the motor from a friends dad ive know for a long time and he had it in a shed burried with junk and completly forgot about it .got her for free . only thing missing is the front hood latch which i already rigged a and the low mixture knob is gone .

didnt clean the carb or anything just added gas , all i wanted to see mainly if it had compression an on the first pull i thought the recoil was broke not knowing there just a short pull , then on the 3rd pull it tried starting so i choked it and on number eight she started up and idled pretty smooth then i noticed no water coming out so i quickly checked to see if she would shift in forward and reverse which it did and i shut it down . i was told the motor was basically junk an no good hahahha. ended up with two free working outboards that run but both need waterpumps.

Terrific! A couple $ and you've got a beauty.
