1966 33 horsepower evinrude impeller

The impeller is not pumping any water. I pulled the lower unit off today and the impeller still looked brand new and the little pin was still in place and the housing looked ok. It was pumping water until a couple days ago. It seems like there is alot of bubbles coming up from around the gear case when in the water. I am also getting milky looking gear case oil out of lower unit. any help will be appreciated.

lower unit has a leak somewhere. Now noting that you say water isn't circulating, I would pull lower unit and see what gasket/s and seal/s are leaking. The milky oil is a classic sign. post back and let us know!

Regarding the milky LU oil, replace the fill/drain plug washers (#18-4248 Washer - replaces O.E. # 311598) and refill LU with fresh oil.
Run it while and recheck it again. If the milkiness returns, you know
your LU needs to be resealed. You can buy a seal kit right here on iBoats.

Regarding the water pump, I would check the water tube grommet (#2) in diagram. Make sure the water tube is aligned properly when
putting it together.

Already tried to replace the washers and it did not help. Any place where I can get a diagram or instructions on how all those seals, gaskets and o-rings go back in correctly. I believe that I aligned water tube correctly but what #2 in diagram are you talking about. One last question, is there any way to blow out the water lines above the impeller, just in case something is stuck in there? Thanks for any help.

You can drop the LU and connect up a garden hose the the water tube (duct tape works). Turn the water on (low pressure) and flush it out. Here's a helpful video...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAJfBKNs7bo

I have a manual for a '64 28hp motor and LU is similar. I could send you copy of that, but I know someone on this forum has a manual for your motor, but I can't recall who. Hopefully he will chime in. Also, I would contact F_R on getting a shift rod seal remover tool. The rest of the job is fairly easy. Send me a PM with your email if you want the manual.

I fixed the lower unit from leaking water into the gear oil, but I am still having trouble with the impeller. I have tried about everything I can think of. New impellers, check pin, no obstructions in lines above or below, gommit fits securely, facing right direction. I need help! I included a picture of the crack under the impeller plate. Does this look like it might cause a problem?

Regardless weather its the cause or not, it needs to be replaced. While lower unit is off, hook garden hose to water tube and and make sure there is no other obstructions in power head. Start engine and allow to warm up to operating temperature. Engine should only run between 140 and 160% Fahrenheit. If you cant hold your hand on engine for at least 10 to 15 seconds, engine is overheating. post back results.

The water pump will not work. I am trying to find the cause of it not working. There are no obstructions in the power head. I have had the stinkin lower unit off a dozen times in the last two days trying to figure this out. Does this model require any gaskets around the impeller housing.

It seemed like it had one when I first changed the impeller. Now I cannot find one anywhere online. Does anybody know where to find one?

No gasket there. Is the impeller tight on the shaft? I just worked on an earlier model 15hp and the replacement impeller I bought from a Johnnyrude dealer (OMC) was slightly loose on the shaft. It wouldn't pump any water. It was the correct number impeller, but I ended up having to buy the entire water pump kit, and that impeller was tight on the shaft. Not sure why a factory impeller sold separately would have a slightly larger diameter - maybe they just want to sell you the whole kit. Try putting the lower unit in water and hook up a drill to the driveshaft and see if water pumps out the top of the housing.

impeller fits snug on shaft. I noticed bottom plate is not just perfectly flat would this cause my problem maybe.

How bad is that cracked? Is the bearing housing around the driveshaft cracked? It looks like it, but pictures can be misleading.

No it was not cracked. I took the plate and a little hammer and flattened it back out. Now it works perfect. Might not be the right way to fix it, but it worked. Thanks for all the suggestions everybody.
