Started making a vibration or rattling noise when I was traveling down a lake. Now when I try to put it in forward gear it makes the same noise for a two to three second period before it goes into forward gear. It goes into reverse with no problem and no noises. Stopped running it because I did not know if it would mess it up further. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does it try to jump out of gear? The clutch dog may be showing some signs of wear.

sounds as though a bushing is worn,If It is and it fails you may lose some expensive gears.

How can I check for worn bushings.

Pull the lower turn it upside down and open the gearcase,Inspect the shaft all the gears and bushings. The bushings will have a tiny bit of play,Not like a tight fitting bearing. If any wobble see if you can get the bushing specs and mic em out.Or take it down and bring the bushings in to someone who can.Do you have a OEM Manual? It sure helps to have one.You may open it and look and say wow thats gotta be it.?
