Re: 1966 14' aluminium hp question

I was going to put in removable teak floor with the teak mounted on pt lumber with 1/4" gaps between the teak slats so water goes through and can flow to the back.

I've been told that PT lumber and aluminum do NOT play nice together...something about causing corrosion and pitting when the chemicals leach out into the metal.

I actually had to remove a piece from my aft bench that was PT when I found that out...didn't cause any issues but may have if given enough time:eek:

I guess I'll use teak or aluminium then....thanks. I mounted the motor...I think I might redo the motor and try to sell it and put something a little smaller. I like to troll downriggers and this motor is pretty big and takes up a lot of room.

Is your electric motor's fastest speed still to slow for the downriggers? With some 5-10lb balls dragging I'd imagine it is. I've only run downriggers with kicker motors in the past on larger boats.

I troll with my minn kota 30lb thrust w/out downriggers and it seems to do ok...no speedometer so not sure on mph or knots though. I know the action of the rapalas, deep divers and spinners is good.

I have 2 cannon mini downriggers with 4lb balls. I can troll up to 3mph by gps. I usually troll 1.7-2.3 for trout and salmon. On a windy day I will drift with the balls dragging the bottom for lake trout. I have a great pond in the Adirondacks for this. Motor to one end drift to the other.
