You would need to crank the engine to check for voltage as the current comes from the magnetos when the engine is turning over, I believe

When I put the distributor housing back on, does that just go on one way? Does it just slip right back on?

??---No magnetos on this motor.---Just 2 sets of points , 2 coils and condenser.

My engine is tilted all the way up, will that engage the mercury switch?

Where exactly is the Mercury switch and what does it look like? Does the distributor housing only go on one way or is there a way to put it on wrong?

Look at the diagram I posted it shows the mercury switch connected to the white and brown wires, at full tilt it will kill the ignition; the distributor cam only fits one way look up into the housing and match the position. Yes it has an alternator for charging the battery only, not ignition.

the red plastic fitting holds a carbon brush it will not spark without it.post serial # of motor. two sets of points that need to be checked and gapped correct with new condensers rotor was held on with locktight. don't break it. marine engine for parts diagram

Well, I put it back together, I hope the distributor housing went on okay it seemed to mount up easy without forcing it so it should be right?
