I have a 1965 I think?, Johnson Seahorse 60HP Outboard. Model VXL-110. Just started working on it. I picked it up really cheap with a older Fiberform. I was able to get the engine to crank over, with some time and oil in the cylinders.
No I'm not getting spark. I don't have a battery connected, but with the knowledge I believe I have I shouldn't need a battery when cranking it over by hand. I pulled the points apart and cleaned them and of course lost a part. I lost a very small piece that I believe is a magnet. It goes in the middle of the points and rests on a very small spring. Can any one tell me what this does and where I can get a new one if I need it.
Also I'm going to try and clean up the ignition system, as there is some corrosion in it. Any tips.
This website is great. Thanks for the help.
