Hello,

I have a 9.5hp 1965 evinrude. I pulled the lower unit off to check the water pump because there was no water pumping through the exhaust. What I found was an impeller in about 10 pieces in the housing. I ordered sierra part number 18-3003 to replace it. I got this part number from iboats.com list as well as another supplier's list. Problem is this impeller does not fit in the housing. Is this the wrong part number? am I suppsed to bend the blades of the empeller to fit in the housing? Please help. this is what I am hoping is the last step of a long overhaul.

Thank you,

Joel

The impeller blades do have to be bent to fit in the housing.
You will notice that the shaft does not pass exactly through the centre of the housing so when assembled the vanes on one side of the impeller are very bent but only slightly bent on the opposite side.

It can be quite difficult to get an new impeller in and some lubrication ( washing up liquid perhaps or glycerine will help or a water based "personal lubricant"... the stuff your Urologist uses when he feels your prostate ) will help
The vanes are best bent backwards relative to the direction of rotation but it is not vital, they soon sort themselves out.

Thanks Vic. I was worried I would have to wait another week to put the motor back together...again. I will give it a shot. Thanks for the quick response!
