I think my motor is not charging the battery.
What should be the voltage on the battery at idle? Same as on the car 13-14 volts

It has a stator and regulator, so it should be charging at idle. Check the output of the regulator, which is located in the junction box.

The good news is that the regulator is adjustable--to a point. That is, if it isn't a corroded mess.

Thanks, the regulator looks good. Is there a limit on these old regulators? I think cars output 13.5-14.5v to efficiently charge the battery, outboard should output the same right?

I don't have my manuals with me, so I can't answer that. The voltage is listed in the Factory Service Manual. Perhaps somebody who has the same or similar year can look that up for you.

From my 1966 manual: With engine @2000-2200 rpm, and ammeter showing 5-10 amps, voltage should be between 14.4 and 15.0 volts
