Hello all!! I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I have recently become the proud owner of very nice 1964 Starcraft...and from what i have found out so far I believe it is the DART model. (I'm embarrassed to say, but my neighbor traded it to me along with a myriad of other equipment, it was Christmas in July!) God bless good nieghbors! It is equipped w/ a barely used 1988 Johnson 40HP. At this point, being late in the season here in NY, I am just Installing some decent fishing chairs, adding some safety equip, aux. and required lighting, fish/depth finder, ect. but I would love to get it repainted...(Looking for the original color code if anyone knows that), and install a deck over the floor ribs at some point. I am absolutely amazed at what some of you have done, and it has inspired me beyond belief! You guys/gals are AMAZING!
Thanks again for providing my soooo much information and inspiration! I am very much looking forward to spending time with you all! Be safe and happy boating!

Warm Regards,

SweetP!

Cool runabout, & it's got the star embossed rear gunwale caps! But what is going on with that bow cap & all those lines?

Enjoy it the rest of this seaason & keep us up to date when you start working on a resto/rehab.

Welcome!

Really sharp looking little boat! Lots of potential there whether you just want to do the minimum or go all out to restore it. How does that 40 run? Unless you're sure it's been done recently, I'd change the water pump before heading out, a small investment worth its weight in gold.

Welcome!

By the way, I like the name on the side too!

Re: 1964 Starcraft Dart

what a nice llittle boat....just shouts "fun", and you could tow it with a large motorcycle.

can't believe you don't like those church pews  i can imagine what my lower back would feel like after a choppy day in those.

if you do floors, plan on at least pulling the motor (it's about 150-175#) and pop off ttransom cap to see what it looks like underneath. easier to just do it all in one big plywood orgy

that's a great motor and having a much newer one gets rid of most of your old-boat issues.

welcome to the tinhorde

Thank all very much for the welcoming and words of encouragement! Will keep you posted on any renovations! I am sure I will be asking alot of questions! (I have used other sites, as I am completing a small renovation on a vintage 82 Suzuki Katana motorcycle and have found people on these type of sites invaluable and truly genuine!) Thanks for the tip on the water pump Lakelover...(by the way I have added your reno. to my favorites, incredible job, Bravo!), I have fired up the Engine, and it seems to purr like a kitten! Thanks again all! Talk to you all soon!

Hey Guy/gals...I just have quick question I was hoping you could help me with, I want to install a Fish/Depth finder on my
boat...(1964 Starcraft 14' Dart) and was looking for some advice on the best place to mount the Transducer. I have the Hummingbird 150 model. I appreciate all your input! Thanks.

If it's an external mount it needs to go at the bottom of the transom flush with the bottom of the boat, on the left side as you look at the transom. make sure to use some 5200 to seal the thru screws so you get no leakage, SS prefered

Hey thanks Captmills, BUT! How critical is the placement...left vs. right!!! I just read your reply, went by the instructions, where it depicted it on the right side! Did I mess up!? I did however us SS screws...bolt style, tapped and threaded, and used marine grade silicone I picked up at a local marina this morning.

Re: 1964 Starcraft Dart

you should be fine. left or right doesn't matter. the real issue is getting it correctly placed relative to the bottom of the hull, at the correct angle, and out from behind any strakes. you want it clear of hull turbulence as much as possible. go to your sonar mfgr's web site and downlaod the manual for your unit if you don't have it....they will have detailed info on this issue.

sonar for my holiday looks like transducer will line right up with the PO's trio of holes....maybe he also had same brand? or maybe the industry is figuring out that indus std is good thing to avoid customers having to drill more holes below waterline? if this doesn't work, i am going to mount a hunk of Starboard on the transom so i can redrill and move the trans as needed without swiss-cheesing boat.

Only reason I said left is because most folks have a speedo petot on the right side:redface:

and, in turn, the reason that most folks put it there is that steering and gauges are on the right on nearly all boats. wonder how they came up with the idea of right hand drive for boats? is this a relic from Merrie Olde?

Re: 1964 Starcraft Dart

Ive seen old old boats from the 30's with starboard side helms..I think after the 40's it gradually made its way to starboard.

Re: 1964 Starcraft Dart

that was a cool lookup. In the old days the boat was steered from the right side...steerboard...starboard. boats passed on the port side to protect the steerboard. The reason the steerboard was on the right was because most people were right handed. OK, back to more important stuff....

Nice looking seats, with some serious hinge hardware....

Do the seats have the option of bolting a swivel base under them? Might prove handy, esp for the helm seat...

Nice score on a nice looking SC!

Re: 1964 Starcraft Dart

Sweet find ! I am almost finished customizing my 66 Sea Dart. Not to many around. I love mine handles great, nice and light for towing. The one I found had already been stripped and the dash removed so I didn't have many options except as a fishing machine !
