Thank you again, I think I am going to purchase the replacement pump. I cant find any mention of these pumps being on a 3hp.

New Problem and this may be pump related. The motor is running well at idle, really smooth...now since I had the fuel pump issue it will not speed up when I try to turn up the RPM's it starts to sputter and dies. Could this be pump related or did I possible install the highspeed needle or something else in the carburator incorrectly. It will run all day at a medium idle, it just no longer will run any faster.

This is my first attempt at rebuilding an outboard and really appreciate the help, I am really obsessed with solving this problem. Everytime I fix one thing another springs up...I appreciate any thoughts on this. You all have been really helpful. My father gave me this motor and so far I have spent less than $100 on it.

hi andy. the motor dying could be for two reasons. One is that the spark dies as you turn the throttle, but if it starts and idles well, it probably has good spark, so I'm thinking it's a fuel delivery issue. One quick test is to spray a bit of fuel mix into the carb as you increase the throttle. If the rpms pick up as you twist the throttle while spraying in gas, then it's probably a fuel issue. make sure the brass nut that the hi/lo speed needles pass through are nice and snug. sometimes they loosen up as the motor runs and can cause air leaks. Once you determine if it really is/is not a fuel issue, holler back and let we'll take it from there.

BINGO!! It was a fuel issue, I rerouted the fuel line to go directly from the tank to the carburetor and checked the hi/lo speed packing nuts. The lo speed packing was shredded and ended up removing the nut and repacking it. I had a few issues with the sierra kit parts because it is very confusing (seems to be a lot of posts on this) but got it to work. My needle is a little over tight and due to a brain lapse yesterday is broken on the non working end (new one on order) but fully functional. Started her up and she sounded much better, rpms increased properly. Now I just have permanently reroute the fuel lines and I shoud be good. The pump is still on the side of the motor, do I need to even worry about taking it off right now or plug the in/out holes?

Just plug the lines or remove the pump and plug the pulse hole.
