IMG_1564.JPG IMG_1558.JPG Pulled lower unit without any problems. Impeller was broke. Found the crack in the lower gearcase. Looks like Marine Tax should fix it. Next will be to clean the carburetor. Seafoam a good option?

Get a carb kit with float and rebuild. I Use spray carb cleaner to clean out all the passages. I usually soak the parts in acetone and then blow them out real good. When rebuilding, be sure to remove the core plug in the top and clean out the idle circuit beneath. Check the orifice that the needle valve goes through and make sure it is not chipped or broken.

Never did a carb rebuild before. Looks pretty complicated. Is this something fairly simple?

Not that difficult a job. These old carbs are very simple in design. Sometimes the hardest part is getting the carb off and re-installing it after the rebuild. Replace the fuel hoses while you're at it.
