I am trying to replace the spark plug wires on a 1963 Mercury 110 9.8. I removed the flywheel and I'm not sure how to take the coils off. The manual I have doesn't cover this. I see pins that look like they could be driven or pressed down/out - I believe the coils are still good and don't want to ruin them by doing something stupid. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm not 100% sure without a serial number but some of the coils can be pulled off of the laminated metal core without removing the core from the breaker plate.

Post a picture (under 200k) of the magneto because there are 3 types for 2 cyl.

Any pictures from bottom of the magneto plate ( close up ) of where wires go into the coils ?--- think you can replace them from bottom ?

Here are the instructions for checking and repairing the magneto, it seems that you can remove the wire(s) without taking the coils out which I would try first then set up the points etc.

It sounds like I might be able to replace the wires without removing the coils. I will definitely check this out this weekend. Thank you merc850 and racerone!

This turned out to be much easier than I originally thought. One of the coils was glued onto the post which I couldn't figure out. Merc850.s reply really helped - thank you. All I needed to do was bend the spring steel tab down and carefully pry them off the post. Getting the ignition wires OFF was possible with the coils in place, but would have been impossible to get them back on. New wires back on and I have good spark. Thank you everyone.

I was just trying to show you that it didn't come as an assembly with the core.
They're sold on this site for $68.89. At may be a little above average for an ignition coil but still not terribly high.
