Hello Group, I have a Mercury 650 Serial# 1543598. The outboard was bought with the boat in 1963, I am it's second owner. It has a "Aqua Meter" tachometer in the boat that has not been hooked up. It is only a 2 wire tach, a coax style wire (a center wire with the braided shielding wire, the other two wires are for it's lighting for night, a positive and a ground. My question is, how does this tachometer hook up to the Mercury? The coax wire is just rolled up sitting back by the transom. Does it hook up to the two yellow wires on the rectifier? Any help is much appreciated. I am restoring this boat back to original. Thanks.

What is the model Nr. of the tach, you could search for the instructions, if it needs a module search for that too. If you want to go modern just buy an alternator driven one that attaches to one of the yellow wires.

Thanks for replying. I removed the tach. It doesn't have a model number on it. It does have a red, black, and a small gray shielded wire. and the light bulb wires. Shame as it is a set with the speedometer gauge. On the back of the unit all it states is "2 cycle outboard". MT 1 17 6. and the letter C.
