Hi,
First post here so I'll just dive right in.

Just picked up a 14' Starcraft Seafarer, and based on what's left of the VIN sticker I believe it is a 1963 model. We got it from an older friend (in his 70's) and he said he got it from his dad. The s/n starts with 63- so I assume that is the model year.

The sticker lists the serial number, model name and length, and max hp of 40hp. Did the capacity/VIN plates back then not list any weight or passenger capacities? Can anyone point me to a picture of what a similar capacity plate looks like?

The boat came with a Mercury 200 20hp outboard that I've been able to figure out from a web s/n search is a 1974 model engine. Our friend said he can't start it anymore due to shoulder problems. It does turn over but I need to wait for our garden hose to thaw out before I can try to start it. Any links to owner's manuals or service manuals or gas/oil ratios would be appreciated. I assume the small flip lever on the side of the engine is a reverse accuator of some sort since I can see it flexing a cable housing leading to the lower unit.

Anyway, I'll try to post some pics of the boat via my phone browser, otherwise I'll do that in a day or two once I'm back on the computer. I'm in Wisconsin between Milwaukee and Sheboygan and will update my profile soon.

Hi treebound. Welcome to iboats. Congrats on the new project. Can't wait to see what you do with her. Not to worry there are lots of Starcraft guys here in the forums too. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Welcome aboard. I see painting in your future.:joyous: Nice little utility craft you got there, 14 footers are my favorite to fish from. These Starcrafts are built well, you'll love her.

Check out the Merc forum for the outboard.

Thanks for the welcomes.
The people we got the boat from said something about an acid wash to clean up the exterior, I wasn't too sure about that though.
It does have an accumulation of bird droppings on it from sitting in the barn so I do know it is destined for a pressure wash before too much is done with it.

Welcome - You've got yourself a fine craft there. I've got the 2003 model, they're built like a battleship & handle the water great.

Here's what the capacity plate of my '64 Jet Star looked like...nope, no weight or passenger info, just model, SN, HP & length.

Welcome...I have a 1965 14' Starcraft Seafarer that I splashed last year. The boat had no capacity plate, so at the time I purchased one directly from Starcraft. Here it is...capacity.jpg Good luck and have fun.

tb - Had to fix your last post. ;)

Nice looking 14'er, I revived on little one last year. Actually still have to finish it, but it's water tight and waiting for soft water.

Welcome to the site and have fun fixing her up.:bounce:

Those merc 200's are solid engines, I have 2, easy to start and good on fuel.

Runs 50-1 mix, get that impeller replaced before you take it out on water, lube the rubber with dish soap ;)

"impeller" or "propeller'????? I don't have a printed service manual yet and the online one takes awhile to thumb through.

Are you talking about an internal component like whatever is used to pump the cooling water? I'll have to figure out how to get to it, inspect it, and if it needs to be replaced.

impeller. Water pump. The rubber impellers are wear items and should be replaced every couple years.
