As you can see. she's in great shape... no holes, leaks or patches! The P.O. put the new 3/4" ply floor in a year ago, and doesn't look like the spar varnish used on top has help up very well. I'm going to strip and topcoat with something else. Very happy with this little boat!

Hmmm... Just noticed that the data plate is a "replacement plate", as you can see written right on it... wondering again about the "max hp" rating... hope that lil' merc is enough for her, as I love the power tilt/trim! The boat is very light (I can pick the boat up off the trailer myself).

Here's a pic with the old windshield sitting in place... also some of the parts that were in a crate sitting in place. I don't think I'll be using the windshield... not sure yet though.

Your Jupiter SHOULD have a max hp rating of 85hp+/-, NEVER seen a 16ft Jupiter w/ a 40hp rating. Is it 16ft +/- long? Perhaps it's not a Jupiter. 40/50hp is typical on Jets and other SC 14-15ftr's.

If it's 16ft long, using the typical 75% of max hp 'rule' you ought to try & run at least 63.75hp, so you may be a little under powered, by 14hp.

Depending on the T&T on a 50hp, you might be able to swap the T&T to a 65hp Merc of the same vintage. If you don't max out the weight limit, I suspect you won't be totally disappointed w/ the 50hp, but you will probably want more hp eventually.

Thanks jb... Was wondering all the same. Most the "Jups" I see here also have a more deep vee. I don't know if that is because of her year or what. The 45hp did push around my (much heavier) old fiberglass 17', although I wasn't winning many races with her. Like you said, I shouldn't be totally disappointed. I really just want her for fishing crabbing, but it would be nice if she could get out of her own wake... hopefully plane anyway. I'm going to take some measurements of her, and post here for some more info.

The boat came with a Johnson control box. I'll take a pic and post here if anybody wants it. Just pay shipping, however easy (or hard) that is.

PM* your way Big ;)

If you don't know how to use the Iboats PM system, it's not complicated, just scroll up to the top right corner of a forum page.

To the left of your user name, there's a Messages icon. If the little square to the right of the word Messages has a number in it & it's red, you have messages. Just click on it.

That takes you to a notifications page. Along the left side of the page is several choices. Look for Inbox. That's your *private messages Inbox. Click on that & my message should be there.

Thanks

Nice clean looking boat ya got there. No real need to stat another thread elsewhere.. most of the Starcraft tinheads are here to admire and provide tips for Starcraft specific issues. Good luck with your build and hopefully she meets or exceeds your expectations.

Thanks Willy... will be good fun, no matter the outcome. I had fun on the old "sled" that the motor came off of, this HAS to do better than that! LOVE your Chieftain BTW!!

I did keep the nice galvanized "Shoreline" trailer that the old Traveler used to sit on... thinking about converting it to bunks and using it instead of the current (very high) trailer she's on now.

Yeah I like that Merc paint job, :thumb: what did you use/do?

I'm in the process of scraping the old decals of my stern drive, sanding, primer and soon the paint. I plan on using the same tractor paint I used on my boat and trailer but in black of course.

I used Acrylic Urethane Gloss Black from Summit Racing. Great price and really decent paint!! I think I paid about $30 or so for a quart. It's a "single stage" paint (no clearcoat required. Just mix 4:1 with the hardner, and shot it at about 45psi. I ordered the "slow" hardner, because I shot it in my (hot) garage. "Slow" is for 80^ and up. It laid down beautifully, with no runs, and I REALLY laid it on! I was building it up high enough to "color sand" to a high gloss, but no need to sand, she's plenty smooth!
