1962 evinrude fatwin 18hp carb settings.

???----Where on the carburetor is the ---" other jet "----Picture please.=====Low speed is 1-1/2 out from seated.----High speed is 3/4 out.-----The motor will start / run with those settings.-----You MUST fine tune on the water!-----And how did this motor run for you last season ??

I just got it at an estate sale saturday.I have no clue.Its a nice looking motor.I have the foot off changing the impeller.I pressurized it and it held 12lbs for 30 minutes .The foot grease had no oil in it.The fuel lines were hard and I do not imagine it has run in a very long time.I poured atf in it right to start with and let it sit for one day.Compression is 112 on both cylinders and I have spark although I don't know if it's enough.The jet I was referring to is the top one .High and low are on the bottom .It might be air I'm not sure.I think this motor will run but I'm sure it probably needs carb cleaned at least
That's why I need the settings

???----The upper needle is the slow speed mixture.-----The bottom is the high speed mixture.-----There is no " other jet" on this simple carburetor.----Take a look at the coils.----They are likely cracked as all of the original coils did.----Do a complete evaluation BEFORE spending beer tokens on a 60+ year old motor.

Download this oldies manual for johnson servicing the johnson FD16 is likely evry similar to your Evinrude 18hp
book contains all the infor you need to service these older models ....see carb section etc..
a good book to cover the OB basics even if your Evinrude is not in there

typical condition of coils mentionnned by racerone... your MUST pull the fly wheel and service the electrical. lots of utubes and folks to help out as your bring it back to life !

You are right I was looking at the choke knob.I had a brain fart

Kits are only good if the internal passages are 100% clean and should be your starting point Inspecting electrical is not an option to skip !

What is the best way to get the flywheel off.I know it usually requires a special tool.will screwdrivers and a maiiet work.Do you have to take the 4 screws off holding the plate on top of the flywheel

Dont lever it ....while the flywheel itself is quite sturdy what your levering against might not be and you wouldnt be the 1st to break something trying to lever it off , best get a suitable puller .
A chinese made puller will work fine if you get the right type .

officially the OMC brand FW puller is the best $$$$ but a basic /cheap harmonic puller work fine... it has for me anyway .. notice the inverted nylon nuts I installed.. this keeps the bolts in the puller and more important it stops you from driving the bolts in to far into the FW which could snag on coils and all..!

if coils are cracked .. replace incl plug wires with 7mm strand copper wire (no carbon stuff)
you will need to remove the mag plate ... lots of utubes on this to show you. when done adjust the timing . Consensers likely no good ... points you can just polish with 150 grit and wash out with carb cleaner and see if they are still good later on.

The inspection cover ( 4 screws ) must be removed.-----The 3 holes ( 1/4-20NC ) thread are used to pop the flywheel off.
