1962 Evinrude 28HP power problem

My '62 Speeditwin engine operates erratically. Most of the time it runs at about half speed, then it will cough and sputter and start running at full throttle. It will now run fine until I shut it down for a few days, then same problem. Is it a fuel problem or is it electrical?

Could be either.<br />What have you done to check what the problem is?<br />Compression check? Spark plugs? New fuel?<br /><br />John

Is it almost like the second cylinder kicks in at some point?<br />Try and run it on one different cylinder at a time and see what happens.<br />If this is indeed the case then it is time to check if and why you sometimes get spark to one cylinder and sometimes not.-could be as easy as a loose wire or bad plug-
