A good design but as with anything mechanical and the manner in which it may have been maintained, problems may exist.

Use a 25/1 mixture..... 1qt of 50/1 TCW-III oil to 6 gal of gasoline. A octane rating of 87 will be fine.

Sitting that long..... clean and rebuild the carburetor. Check the compression. Remove s/plugs and check for spark that should jump a 1/4" gap. Use Champion J6C plugs gapped at .030. Test run in trash can with water a couple inches above the seam where ther lower unit bolts on (covering the water pump). Water should shoot out the hole in the back of the loing exhaust housing with exhaust pressure.

I never had a problem shipping to the UK via USPS Priority International mailing but I am completely out of coils. Does iBoats (this site) refuse to ship to the UK? I'm sure they have the coils.

Omc used the same coils/points setups on 3-40hp early '50's to mid '70's.. Shouldn't be a specialty or uncommon item by any means..
Good luck!

One would think you could get coils in the UK but I have no idea (seeing as they used to make the later on engines in Belgium) . Look around. It'd be cheaper to find them there than ship em. Also read the top secret thread at the top of the forum under awakening a sleaping outboard. it'll get you up and running. It's a good engine. The only think I would do before putting any time or $$$ into it would be to do a compression check. If it's good then you'll have a fine running engine when done and it's worth working on.

Re: 1961 sportwin 10

In case you're not well versed in installing those coils properly, read on.

(Magneto & Driver Coil Alignment)
(J. Reeves)

To align the coils properly, have the metal vertical portion of the coil yokes aligned with the inside edge of the bevel that exists on the top portion of the aluminum seat upon which the coils sit. This creates the proper distance between the coils and the flywheel magnets. Faulty alignment creats friction and the yokes of the coils heat up, turn blue and expand.
