1961 Mirrocraft with 1971 Evinrude ski twin 40hp restoration

Hi all.

This summer I picked up a 1961 Mirrocraft boat on a trailer with a 40hp Evinrude on it. I paid $200 for it so if anything I figured it would be a fun experiment. The boat had been sunk and then not run since and that was 4 years ago. I tore down the motor to check on the crank bearings and everything looked perfect besides the starter. Not sure if thats why the guy never ran it. I cleaned it up and got the motor back together to test run. I got it to run well today.

I wanted to make sure that the motor was good because that would be the biggest cost to replace. Boats are a dime a dozen

So now that I got the motor running well I want to shift my focus to the boat.

The first thing I want to address is the windshield. It is very well, not clear. Is there any saving the plexiglass or should I try and cut out a new windshield?

Wow, that is a nice looking set up. Especially for the :greedy_dollars:. There is a ton of info on this subject on this forum and the net that is better than anything that I can offer, except that I have had good success with pledge furniture polish. Also have heard that the headlight cleaning kits work well, but no personal experience. If it were mine, I would try everything to save it before trying to replace. My experience with new plexiglass has never been good. But that's just me. Again tons of success stories here and on the web.

Yeah unfortunately it has been replaced before and I'd say it's beyond salvageable. I'm going to have to replace it.

YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE.I would try a corse cutting compound on a powerball to see if it would clear it up.If it does a good trick to keep it good is to wax the windshield heavily with a good carnauba wax.

It's got stress cracks in the corners and it wasn't cut very well by the guy that made it. I wouldn't be satisfied with it on there haha
