Hello,Im new here and first time poster.Heres the deal,I recently bought a boat and the sea horse was on it.Previous owner said motor ran fine but should have it checked out.So after taking it to a johnson dealer they say the starter is fried and parts for the motor are no longer available. Are there really no parts out there.Any feedback would be a god send.Thank you.

what size is the motor? parts may no longer be available at the dealer but their certianly av, elsewheres ,just did a quick search on iboats store and lots of parts for old motors, exsecially points condencers etc.the starter may be a little harder to find though, how about getting a rebuilder to look at it ?remember one thing most dealers dont want to deal with old motors they want to sell you a new one!

just for an example, iboat marine store has tune up kit for your motor for 27 bucks!as i said the starter should be looked at by a rebuilder or maybe one of the johnson rebuild kits on this site will be what your looking for?

take the starter to an auto alternator/starter shop they will fix you up. expect around $200.

There are tons of those motors out there. Go to aomci.org and post a free want ad for a good used starter on their Webvertize page.
