Hey everyone,
Just starting a thread focusing on my MFG. Had a great thread going with the "transom materials" post but figured I'd rename and re-concentrate my focus on the restoration end of the project. Here are some pics.

Transom Repair

Transom Repair

Here's the start-up of the transom repair project. Unfortunately (for my boat anyway), I'm leaving for Idaho in 5 weeks for a 6 week hunting expedition. Believe me I'm more excited about hunting elk for 6 weeks but I assure you I will be thinking of my girl on a daily basis. I cannot dedicate any money to her until I return and recoup from this trip. Until then, I will post pics of the progress involving little or no money.

Motor stand

Motor stand

Finally, this motor stand has taken the most time so far. As you may be able to tell, I have pretty cramped conditions(my own fault of course, but I cant help giving something cool a new home). I had to pull the boat and motorcycles out, clean-up, build the motor stand, find a home for the motor stand and put it all back together again. But I did it, now I can really dig into the project. Next step after transom repair will be flipping her over and tackling the small crack in the hull and repainting the whole hull. Any suggestions on bottom side paint? I will be mostly trailering my boat and would like a glossy whit finish. Hoping theres a two part epoxy type like the pettit topside paint. I'm not sure I'm into all the chemical releasing stuff with the anti-fouling paint. Maybe someone can educate me.

Re: 1960 MFG Northeast Hardtop Deluxe restoration project

Hey woodonglass
If I decided at a later date that I would like to rent a slip somewhere for the season, could I use the pettit easypoxy now and put the antifouling bottom side paint over it later?

Oh, yes, that is a keeper. Those hard top models are near imposable to find around there, and I'm just a few hours away from where they were made.

Its going to be a great boat, and the old MFG's were so seriously overbuilt, it will last a long time.

The Petit two part paint will do great on the hull, even if its in the water for a few days at a time. Just be sure it gets about two weeks of dry time before you leave it in the water over night.

Still trying to find the article I wrote about polishing the gel coat that used to be on fiberglassics, but no luck. Will have to write them.

Looking forward to more pics,

Mark.

Re: 1960 MFG Northeast Hardtop Deluxe restoration project

I have done a bunch of light body filling on the topside. I.e. small cracks and screw holes and the like, I will be painting the topside as well. I would love to get an exact color match from pettit but haven't researched that yet. Any thoughts on whether or not pettit will do that? Also, will pettit actually send paint chip samples?

When I called Petit a year or two ago, they said they do not custom mix colors. But you can mix their colors yourself to get what you want. Go to their website and you can order a paint chip card, they included a CD and small manual about how to apply their paints, which paint should be used under what conditions... etc.

Ditto on Mark42, YOur boat is almost the same color as mine and I am using their Bikini Blue. It may not be Exact but it is so close I am not going to worry about it.

I was thinking the same woodonglass. I want to see a chip before I order anything. I love that color on the 1960. I think it screams "1960 MFG"

For comparison:

I used "Ocean Blue" on mine

Stratosman86 used "Bikini Blue" on his

Hmm now that I post those they are quite similar.

looks real similar. too similar. I wonder, does anyone have a pic of an original turqoise-ish colored MFG?
