1960 merc 300

My merc 300 ran when I stoped using it 15 years ago.since then it has hung on the wall in my garage . Is it a good idea to try and get it runing again or just get a much newer engine because I want something very dependable.Are service parts for this engine hard to find?Thanks from a new member

General speaking in our area most marinas don't have service personal with enough brains to fix them but there are alot of the still running a round, most common parts are still available(ign-fuel and w/pump+seals the thing that was always the weak spot on the 30/300 lower units still is and is killing them one at a time. You best know your area and engine so it's really up to you, if it were my engine I would probably run it as long as I could but you would need a w/pump impeller and tuneup to start out with.
