Re: 1960 Johnson 75 hp --- Is it worth it?
If you enjoy working on outboards I guess it is worth fixing, but you will invest hundreds more $ plus hours and hours of your own time invested in an old motor. If you just want a dependable motor to go fishing/skiing with for as little effort and money spent as possible get a 80s or 90s model motor already running. I know where numerous ones are around here for around $500, they will require some maintenance and careful upkeep, but parts are plenteous and not that costly. Sounds like you have never rebuilt a outboard motor before, so if you want to do it as a hobby go for it, but if you just want to go out in your boat, put that motor away in the garage or see if it runs and resell it. I had a 69 sea horse motor that ran great but the electric shift quit working and parts are hard to find..I could not give that motor away.the carbs were ridiculously difficult to remove too.ended up sending it to the dump.
