1960 evinrude 40 hp with no top speed

I have a 1960 40hp evinrude that has not top speed at all. I pin the throttle and it goes a bit faster than an idle but not really more than 1/4 speed for a 40 hp. I have good spark on both cylinders as well as fuel coming though the pump. Carb has been cleand and throttle is pinned inside the carb as well. Any thoughts? Please? Please?

You most likely need to
check compression
rebuild carbs
link 'n synk
find/fix air/fuel leaks
check spark
ect ect ect

My guess would be a bad coil. Although they both may spark, they break down under load, and you're basically running on one cylinder. Older OMC's were known for coils going bad with age.

Agreed. As in Ho-Hum, here we go again. Another guy trying to fix a lack of power problem by cleaning the carburetor. Instead of me typing it all out agian, just read this thread:
