I have restored a 1959 Glastron Fireflight. The original starter solenoid gave out. The issue is finding one that will fit in the attached junction box to be able to put the cover back on. Any idea who might carry that part. The original just says 12Volt no number to cris cross.

I always jump starter motor directly with good jumper cables as a first step. No-go = bad starter. If she cranks normally.. wiring/battery issue.
If you get full voltage at starter in start mode, safety switch is not the issue. I would still perform the jumper cable test with known/good battery to confirm bad starter even if seeing 12.5v at starter post.

That motor will have a neutral safety switch mounted on the motor. I forget exactly where it is, but look on the shift linkage. You might trace the wire from the primary solenoid winding to the neutral safety switch.

If you have 12+ Volts at the starter, and the starter is not rotating, the starter has a defect.
Safety switch is a dual mercury switch on the throttle gears. But again, 12V and no go, it is a starter problem
OR---OR---OR, the motor is not grounded. Note: the thumb screw holding the cable to the side of the motor is the ground connection.

measured 12v could be highly resistive from oxyidized cable crimps and connections preventing the amps from flowing properly. did you clean all connections properly ??

did you try a fresh 12v of the the battery with a jumper cable directly on the starter +12v post ??

.Assuming the other side is properly grounded it should spin ..
