So I get it in the water with the family for the first time and as I'm adjusting the high speed rich to lean adjustment it dies and has had intermittent spark since [only sparking occasionally on either cylinder] it has new coils points condensers points set at 020 any idea what might be the cause

So, did you clean the crankshaft and flywheel tapers and assemble them dry? Did you use a torque wrench to tighten the nut to 60-65 foot pounds? If the answer is no to any of the above, you probably sheared the flywheel key. If you are lucky, perhaps it didn't damage the crankshaft and / or flywheel key ways.

spark/ignition is not related to the mixture adjustment (initial h.s. needle setting, btw, is about 1 turn open. When making final adjustment at speed, it’s likely to be less than 1.)

I’m not sure what ignition parts were replaced, but suggest you open it up and review. Wires should be 7mm with a wire core, not automotive wires. The spikes of the spring clips in the plug boots need to be in solid contact with the core wire. Coils likewise need to be in solid contact with the cores. In addition, be sure the coils are perfectly flush with the machined edges of mounting posts (establishes the flywheel air gap.)

Doubt that there is a fuel pump kit listed.-----I would make a new diaphragm or update to say a fuel pump off a 1970 40 hp Evinrude.-----Many pumps will fit.------Even one from the early 40 HP models with filter and sediment bowl.-----Post a picture of the pump you have now.

They haven't made parts for the original pump for over 50 years. If the original is still on there, your best bet is a Sierra 18-7351, available here at iboats. Mount it on the upper cylinder for hose clearance. You don't need the old glass filter, the new pump has a filter under the black cap.

Float is part #375792. No Sierra equiv. Yes, it is a cork float, but not to worry, the new ones have a different coating than the old shellac-coated original, and is fuel-proof.

Check your other thread for fuel pump info.
