1957 lone star steering conversion

IM trying to convert a pulley steering system to a steering cable, I think (think) being the hey word I have it figured out, but my steering arm seems to be to long, Im getting 100% movement 1 way and about 20% the other I think with a little mod I can get a good 75% both ways. First has anyone ever tried this and second does anyone know if their is a outlet to buy a shorter maybe 6inch connecting rod
