When properly maintained the 5.5 / 7.5 hp models run just wonderful.------When you have one running properly you almost hate to shut it down !

I have a nice 7.5 as a kicker along my 75 ETEC . (10/1 ratio !!)

I am replacing it with what I expect to be a nicer 5.5hp Evinrude mdl 5512

That 7.5 runs fine but I think it loves fuel better than my 75hp ETEC at trolling speeds !!!! A 75 ETEC burns about 2 cups (.6 L) / hour
and that 7.5 is a real gas sniffer.

What querky issues do you mean? As stated, both models can run like swiss watches when tuned, I have a few that are hard to stop as stated without a kill button. They idle so low you can count the RPMS almost.

I put the grade 8 hex socket screws back in my 5hp Gale too, with some anti seize. They are a lot easier to turn than a slotted head screw, especially that one that sticks through the water jacket in the rear, it seems to like to rust. If it is like mine, make sure it's the right length screw or it can get against the cylinder wall.

Ended up having to cut the head off of that rear bolt and drilling and tapping it for a new one.

I also has to take the whole transom mount off to get enough leverage to turn the front bolts.
