Hi all, I'm currently in the middle of a 1957 Evinrude 10 HP rebuild. Model 10014. I need to replace the long and short Throttle Gear and Shaft Assemblies. One of them is in tiller handle and the other on the motor housing. The gears are all broken on both of them. I have them removed but can't figure out where to get new ones. Anyone ever been down this road before?

Re: 1957 Evinrude Throttle Gear and Shaft

The long one, part number 376691 is replaced by 377943. Still available from Evinrude dealers, but you won't like the price. The short one, 376692 is listed as No Longer Available.

So, you might want to look for a set of used ones.

Hint: There are two types. Late 1956-up uses the cast gears like you have. The one in the handle are of two types. One type has a flat on only one side of the shaft to fit in the twist grip. Requires the correct twist grip style or it will upside down (but still work). The other type has flats on both sides, and will fit all twist grips. Except for that, the long ones are all alike (up through 20hp).

The short one varies in length according to motor model.
