1957 Evinrude outboard motor

Well the forum helped when trying to get my boat registered and titled, now i have a 1957 Evinrude motor and need to get it refurbished to its original. I live in the Houston/Clear Lake Texas area. Does anyone know where I can get this done. Thanks

HI jj. Great find on the motor. Why not refurbish it yourself? That's half the fun and appeal of these old motors. They're dead simple to work on and very reliable. Best of all once you learn how to fix one, you can pretty ,much fix any of them from 3 hp - 50hp. You can get most routine parts right here at iboats and/or from most NAPA auto part stores under the Sierra brand. If you wan to go for a full-on restoration you can even get factory correct paint and decals. Here are some handy links to get you started.

I'd say the 3-40 hp are easy to work on... The 50's are heavy and have a more complicated magneto set up... But it only went up to 35hp in '57 anyway. What hp is it?

Its a 35 hp, I think im gonna try ACIS in Kemah Texas, I'm a female so really don't have the drive to try to restore it myself. I am getting the 1956 runabout restored to its original as well..the process takes approx 4 months so im hoping to have the motor done about he same time. This is a Holmes runabout made in Houston, is anyone familiar with this company?

It's hard to find folks to fix them up cheaply as most mechanics either wont work on one that old or don't want to. If you have any inclination of doing it yourself at all you will save a lotta loot. The hard part is moving it around (~127lbs) and in and out of a test barrel. Parts and know how are easy to come by.
