inghamphoto,
I have a similar push button switch and haven't mounted it yet. Was wondering, is yours a 5/8" stem? If so what size drill bit did you use?

Steve, yea that's Paul Moir's 28hp. He used to hang out here a long time ago. Guess he got a little creative with the colors, LOL.

I thought about doing a "swatch motor" Each part having a different color used from different years. :D:D

Yes, it is a 5/8. I didn't have that size bit on-hand, so I drilled a pilot hole with my largest twist bit, then used a 5/8" countersink bit to take the hole to 5/8. The metal in the pan is soft and the countersink cut a clean hole. Remember to allow room for re-installation of the air silencer box as mentioned above. (I got lucky)

Yea, I don't have a 5/8" bit either. Guess I have to make a trip to the hardware store. I need to get some of those wire terminals you used as well. Thanks for the tip.

Pulled the 5" spacer off and am back to a short shaft. The anti-ventilation plate is now 1 1/2 " above bottom of boat. I understand that a prop with more cup will help with cavitation. As my prop is a little rough, I'm wondering if a new prop would be a good move. I examined the prop and cannot find any size or pitch markings. Given my boat, 14' wooden flat bottomed skiff, what size and pitch should I be looking for?

So, If I take the spacer out, I will be 1 1/2" too high. I can build a transom extension and jack the motor up 3 1/2" to match the cavitation plate to the boat bottom, live with the motor 3 1/2 " too long, or 1 1/2" too short.

If you build or have made an aluminum "sleeve" that could slid over the top of your transom cut out to gain the 3 1/2 inch...that might look pretty good. I do not think you'll be happy with too low or high performance wise. Just a thought.

Nice looking cowl by the way!
