That is the cut out switch.------Shuts one cylinder down in case of high vacuum ( run away ) condition.-----Rarely causes any problems.----What is your motor doing / not doing ?

It runs slow but I think it’s due to carburetor I just bought boat motor was in 2 peace’s she fires right up it was setting for 5 years but I can’t turn her off with a key switch

Likely the motor is running on just 1 cylinder.----Check for spark that will jump a gap of 1/4" or more.

I would start with a compression test.-----And removal of bypass covers to inspect pistons / rings / look for loose bearings.-----You may not , but I hear noises that can not be fixed with a carburetor rebuild.

Well let me ask you this is it worth fixing this motor or just buy a newer used outboard since for one it’s hard to find parts and most of the mechanics in my area side they won’t touch a motor that old

Your location ?-----I can not decide whether it is worth fixing for you.----Those 57 Larks are definitely worth saving if there is sentimental value to you.

Look on the ----aomci------website.----There may be an old gray haired expert in your area that can help.----Also a free ----wanted ----section to help searching for parts.

Last question for you I mix the oil 50:1 would 24:1 make a difference

The mix was 24:1 in 57.------It will run on 50:1 but it may not last as many years on the leaner mix.-----Oil / lubrication in 2 strokes is not well understood.
