Re: 1956 Johnson Javelin Water flow question

Coming from someone who lives in an area not so well--stocked with 50's motors which I love, I wouldn't even consider paying anywhere close 750 for your motor. And I really like it and am willing to pay quite a bit more than the northern folks that have so many to choose from. I'm not saying that in any way to downplay your motor, I'm just saying I don't think you'll find anyone that will pay 750 no matter how long you wait. 750 is a GREAT offer and if you don't like it that much, sell it to him just like you said. It's a good idea. Of course, knowing my luck if I sold it to him for 750, there would be some BRP bulletin the next day stating that the javelin lower units were made of cast 18 kt. gold or something and that they're buying them back for 5000$.....But I think you ought to let him have it if he wants it that bad or trade him for something you like better...I doubt that javelin is any more reliable than a regular big twin..they're both good. I'd sell it to him and let him fix it---he'll have more fun with it that way anyway.
Enough of my ramble---I agree with Steve. SELL IT!

If you don't care if it's a Javelin or not sell it! I'm picking up a 1956 Evinrude 30 hp tomorrow for $50. Put $100 or so parts into it and it'll be a good engine :) (hopefully!) The engines are reasonably common... I already have a '56 Johnson 30 and a '57 Johnson 35 that I picked up for $100 for both...

and if you want common... get a 60's 40 hp... they're a dime a dozen around here but are ugly! fibreglass hoods and all...

I wish i could find a good running 40-50 horse for dirt cheap...

I wouldnt mind keeping this Javelin and eventually restoring it as i think it is a good looking motor...

Its your motor do what you like. I find it surprising that you can't find a used 40-50 hp. You can't give them away up here. Even a 1960's 28-40 hp is dirt cheap here. However, if you need a tiller that's a different story. Tillers are sought after.

Thanks to everyone ecspecially tashasdaddy for all the help!

I ordered all of the parts from Langs Outboard in NY...cost me almost $80 but it will be worth it if the fuel system functions properly and i can use the boat!!!

im excited and cant wait to get all the parts and do the conversion!!

You should star a new thread for that question but I see you're new.

They didn't make a 35hp in '56, they made a 30hp. So it it's 35 hp it's a '57 or '58. What condition is it in? Around here a good running late 50's 35hp with a tank would go for $300-$500 or so.

And welcome to the forum.
