Hi guys,

My name is Jim and Im new to the forum. This is a pic of my 56 Johnson 30 hp. I found it in a going out of business auction in NYC. This motor was a decoration at a seafood restaurant for 30+ years, I bought it, fired it up, changed the water pump, and since I couldnt buy a boat that did the motor justice, I built a nice retroboat to run around with. Its a Glen-L. Im looking to convert this motor to a fuel pump, I read some posts and saw a member named "FR" has a ready to go conversion kit for a fuel pump on this motor. I did a search but couldnt find him. If anyone could send him my way, or me his way, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jim

I am sure he will come along, maybe tomorrow, might be to late for him. You could change you post title to read something like "Question for F_R", might catch his attention.

You can also send a "PM" (Private Message-top of page) to F R and give him a thread link. Cut and Paste the thread addy.

We like to keep the advice, on a thread, so that others can gain the same knowledge.

Thanks.

Nice looking boat. I just bought a '56 Evinrude 30hp this week. Send a Private Message PM to F_R. He's all over the forum, should be easy to find. I have attached a few pics that have been on the forum before. And welcome to the forum...

One thing to be careful of, however - I believe that the bypass covers on your '56 don't have the bosses for mounting a fuel pump, molded into them. I'm also not sure if they are the same shape as the later bypass covers (shown above), so you may not be able to use one from a 57 or later motor. F_R will be a good source of info on this issue.

Don't forget that if you mount a fuel pump, you have to seal the nipple at the bottom of the intake manifiold, where the pressure line is now attached. If you do that by removing the nipple and replacing it with a screw, be sure that the screw is no longer than the threaded portion of the nipple. Otherwise, it will hit the leaf valve plate behind the intake manifold cover.

Awesome pics, I have similar pump, it might be a little larger, and my bypass cover is a little different. The boss is in a different spot and there are no holes to mount the pump. See pic. If I had that bypass cover my larger pump wouldnt have the clearance problems.
thanks
Jim

Re: 1956 Johnson 30 hp

Hey guys,

I Have 56 javelin and am looking to convert to a single fuel line. Any chance you guys might share the details about how to do this? I grew up with a 1956 30 on the back of a 1955 Larson Crestliner. I have recently restored the boat for my kids and looking to put the Javelin on it for them.

Here are some picks of the boat.

No problem little buddy.

Just start a new thread, this one is older and will get confusing. We will have you on your way in no time.
