Super sweet tip....Will try the next time I tune up. I install the flywheel but do not torque down and just use the electric starter.

Well, I F---ed it up.... Got home from work today. Parts here. Put them in...gapped the points...put on new spark plug wires. (that is a whole nother story)....put it all back together....looked for the right tool to use my drill...dont have the right size. put the bolt on top, tightened it down a bit...put the pull start on, tested first plug wire....GREAT SPARK! sweet deal....tested second plug wire...nothing.....tried again...nothing. Damn....tried taking off flywheel again...wont come off....(of course already took the harmonic balancer puller back...rental)....looked down inside little window...guess what I find.....one of my points is bent way out of line....green wire is gone....maybe wrapped around shaft...who knows....cant see it....turn case...still dont see it...damn thing still wont come off.... going to have to go rent that tool again...and buy yet another coil and point set...ouch.....double ouch....and its all my bad for not turning it slowly by hand to make sure nothing was catching...I just dont understand what it could have even caught on....the two wires were mirror images of one another...and the one is fine......WHY!!!! I feel like kicking myself.....

I just did.....damn......that hurt....

cant find words right now....pissed.....and only me to blame....life is not fair....

Harmonic balancer be dammed??You guys are going to love this?. Made my own?.using washers, ply wood, the three bolts I already had from the first time I took it off, and a big bolt I found lying around the garage?.got the flywheel off?.home made harmonics?mmmm...victory taste so good....

Green wire was indeed wrapped around shaft (no idea how it got like that?well?some idea?) there was about an inch of wire left on the coil?.cut the old wire off bad coil?used one of those neat little clamp deals for connecting wires..clamped the old wire onto the new coil wire stub?fixed the points, re gapped?.put it all back together?and??IT WORKED?.got spark on both plugs now?..I just cant stop congratulating myself?. Going to bed now?.much much happier than I would have otherwise been?.this has been a grand adventure?.I LIKE WORKING ON MOTORS?.(which is probably a good thing considering mine is a 1956)
Cant thank you ALL enough?.this forum is amazing?filled with amazing people?.thank you thank you thank you?.
I would also like to thank God?and the academy?my parents?.(just kidding?its bed time)

one more question....guy I got the motor from told me to run it 50 to 1..which I did for several weeks before it started having the problems stated at the begining of this thread..

I have seen on here some place that it should be 25 to 1....

so the question.....what ratio should I run....and what kind of gas (premium, regular unladed?)
thanks all??.now its really bed time?..dreaming of fishing this weekend?..ahhh?.yeah?.

25:1 ratio - no question. Regular gas is fine - premium will only empty your wallet quicker...

Re: 1956 Fastwin 15 hp

okay, now it won't start...have spark...acts like its not getting gas maybe...when i pump tank i can hear what sounds like air swishing through something... And gas drips out onto ground...can't tell where it is coming from...but i can pump and pump on tank and it never builds to the point that it stops me...unless i unplug from motor... Then it pumps to pressure after a few pumps...plug line back into motor and i hear it... Smell gas...lines look good....... Maybe carbarator gasket? Strange thing is...even with it not building pressure to point of not being able to pump little thumb pump ...if i screw gas cap off...it blows out alot of pressure.... how much pressure do i need?

The primer button doesn't pressurize the tank. It only squirts fuel into your carb., allowing the bowl to fill and providing enough fuel to get the motor to run and push air into the tank to pressurize it. It only takes about 6 or 8 psi for it to work fine. If the primer isn't getting firm, it sounds like the float needle may be stuck open, causing your motor to flood.
Best guess,

How should i fix that... I got it to start twice...both times with choke on and throttle way up...started...ran for a few seconds...then died like no gas.... Should i pull the carb and check floats? Im at the lake right now.. Would love to have it up and going for a few hours of fishing...

Re: 1956 Fastwin 15 hp

thank you for that link, it actualy answered another question of mine...the kick back or mini back fire...was going to ask about that....once I got my motor running it would "ping" or "bang" while it was running...as I adjusted the slow speed the "bang" was eliminated...this is what prompted the question on porper setting...
was going to ask about the "bang" next....

my last question....for now...

the fly wheel does not go round in a straight line...meaning if I look at it from the side I can see a very, very slight wobble...nothing very noticible...just something I noticed....this is okay? normal? or is it the begining of a problem?

It sure doesn't sound like it would be ok. I was hoping to read other peoples responses to this one.

Anyone know?
