DONT try to build your own pressure tank! either look for one, or convert your motor to a fuel pump/single line set up. ( im not sure about the color either lol, but the $5 paint job does look good. get it running well then decide if you want to repaint it).

Hey nwcove, my old CD looks as good as the one in your avitar. :D

longjohnson: Be careful about laying your motor on the shifter side. It's okay on the solid ground, but in transport, those shifters break to easily and for a 60 year old motor, they aren't cheap anymore. Those old CD's can look like hell and still run good too. LOL

I love the old Champion. It looks just like the one I had. If you're in the Northwest, then it could possibly be mine. LOL

lol, thats my "dead" 56.......im restoring the cowl and hoping a good power head can be found ..on the cheap! if not ......the cowl should? fit my cd 14!

okay, any advice on the cheapest route for converting to single line and fuel pump? how does it work? what size of pump? will it be a inline pump or will it be submerged in the fuel somehow ? will i be using a standard plastic gas jug then? thanks and sorry for all the questions any advice is appreciated :) lol

Check the forum for "fuel pump conversion" threads and you'll find tons. most folks find it to be a pretty quick install and well worth the effort as you can then run on a more conventional, modern, OMC single line fuel system. Mikuni seems to be the brand of choice, but I'm sure there are others too. they may even sell them right here at iboats, if I remember correctly.

i also think there is a youtube vid (maybe its on testing coils) showing how to do the conversion. it looks simple, but if you miss anything, it wont work, but there is good info in the top secret file at the top of this forum.

If it's a 5 1/2 horse, Look for a tag that will have the model # and serial # on it. I just bought a Johnson Seahorse 5 1/2 CD-12 at a antique tractor show in Adrian Mo. a couple weeks ago for $20. The asking price was $30 but one blade was broken off a (what looked like new) two blade prop and the shift lever was broken off but still had enough to shift forward to neutral to reverse. When I pulled the starter rope, there seemed to be enough compression evenly in both cylinders. I didn't know if there is spark yet as the cylinders and crank bearings are dry and I didn't want to make possible bad bearings worse. I'll find a way to fill the crankcase with oil till I get it running. It was kept in a shed out of the weather so is not rusted or corroded. It needs some small parts like the rubber grommets that hold the back of the hood in place. Also, it has no tank but I have a running 1955 10 horse that was converted to single line and a spare single line tank. I would like to convert this one to single line if I could. All my outboard engines are
1. 18 HP West Bend not running but not stuck and complete with tank.
2. 10 HP 1955 Johnson Seahorse running with new carb, fresh rebore pistons, new 3 blade speed prop converted to single line fuel system. Also have a 10 HP Johnson Seahorse for parts
3. 5 1/2 Johnson Seahorse CD-12 that I bought at the antique tractor show in Adrian Mo.
4. 5 HP Johnson Seahorse TN-26 stuck but complete with good prop.
5. 5 HP Elgin, stuck but complete with good prop ( fin is broken off bottom below prop shaft)
