are your coils set flush with the bosses? could be rubbing on the flywheel.

Yep, the coil heels are likely rubbing against the flywheel. They should be bang-on flush with the machined lip just below the heels, on the mag plate...

Can also be caused by the magneto retaining plate being upside down. It goes with the tapered side down.

Can also be caused by the magneto plate being broken--center bushing loose.

Can also be caused by the crankshaft bearings being totally worn out.

Bottom line is----SOMETHING is causing the coils to contact the flywheel magnets.

Well then, you have a new problem that we've never heard of. Let us know what it is when you figure it out.

Anthony, just to clarify. By "spinning" do you mean rotating counter clockwise when you twist the throttle, if so, that is supposed to happen. That's how the spark is advanced. As the flywheel spins clockwise and you twist on the throttle the magneto plate rotates (i.e. "spins") counter clockwise causing the motor to fire/spark more and more rapidly so that the increased fuel provided by the carb, can be burned, thus raising the rpms.

Ok so After many hours of head scratching I finally figured out what the problem was. On the Arms of the points, the end where it touches the round magneto cam. When I put the flywheel on the first time the magneto cam was up because of the spring and when I pushed the flywheel down it messed up the ends of the Arms. I got a new set of points and it worked like a charm. Thanks for all the help guys It was my mess up
